March of the Living Statement on the death of George Floyd

The death of George Floyd and the ensuing civil unrest is a reminder of how far we have yet to travel to achieve justice and equality in our society.

The dignity of every member of the human family is a central principle of Judaism and one of the core values of March of the Living.

We mourn the loss of every single innocent human life, as we are saddened by the deep divisions and hostility that we are witnessing today.

“Thou shall not be a perpetrator, thou shall not be a victim, and thou shall never, but never, be a bystander”, Professor Yehuda Bauer teaches us.

Our Torah remind us, that none of us are truly free, until we are all free. “Proclaim liberty throughout to all inhabitants of the land.” (Leviticus 25:10).

Let us pledge to heal the wounds that have been created in our communities and all across our country by recommitting ourselves to working tirelessly in the pursuit of fairness, justice and peace for all.
