Statement
Shalom,
The March of the Living
(MOL) is a most unique Jewish educational program
for teenagers. It challenges them with two of
the most significant events of Jewish history-
the Shoah (Holocaust) and the birth of the modern
State of Israel.
The teens spend one week
in Poland where they observe Yom HaShoah (Holocaust
Remembrance Day) by marching from Auschwitz
to Birkenau where they conduct a
memorial service. They visit many of the death
camps as well as the areas where Jewish life
flourished in pre-World War II Europe.
They following week is
spent in Israel, observing Yom HaZikaron (Israel
Memorial Day) and Yom Ha'Atzmaut (Israel Independence
Day), celebrating the rebirth of the
Jewish People in its ancient homeland.
Since the March's inception
in 1988, over 50,000 Jewish teens from 60 countries
have participated, coming from different cultures
and from every Jewish religious
denomination. It has had a tremendous impact
on them in terms of their personal growth and
development, as well as their commitment to
Judaism, Israel and the Jewish
People. It is now more important than ever that
as many Jewish teens participate in future Marches
so that they can spread its message of "K'lal
Yisrael", building Jewish
unity in this time of grave Jewish peril.
Any help you can give will
help us continue this very important project.
